IndyCar: Dixon heads Chevy charge to the front at Fontana
Scott Dixon, who won IndyCar's last oval race, looked on strong form again this afternoon as track temperatures at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, Calif. hit 125degF and Chevrolet-powered cars made their presence felt by claiming the top three times. The Chip Ganassi Racing No. 9 driver lapped the two-mile track at 217.629mph to eclipse Team Penske's top dog, Simon Pagenaud, who led a seven-car group in the 216mph bracket. Ed Carpenter, who scored his team's first win at this track back in 2012, was third fastest ahead of the first Honda-powered machine, that of AJ Foyt Racing driven by Takuma Sato. Indy 500 winner Juan Pablo Montoya was fifth, ahead of the quickest drivers of the morning...
