The battle for the Fast Nine at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway turned out to be a nice shootout early Saturday evening as James Hinchcliffe, Will Power, Ryan Hunter-Reay, Helio Castroneves and Mikhail Aleshin jammed their way into Sunday's showdown for the pole position. A year after nearly losing his life at IMS, Hinchcliffe roared back in impressive fashion by posting the fastest four-lap average of the day at 230.946mph in the Arrow Honda for Schmidt Peterson Motorsports. Hunter-Reay got knocked out of the Fast Nine by teammate Marco Andretti but, with just over a minute remaining, returned the favor with the second-best run of 230.805mph in the DHL Honda for Andretti Autosport.
