Castroneves collects Phoenix pole, lap record
– Hélio Castroneves reset his own track record from 2016 en route to pole at Phoenix on Friday night. The Brazilian led the field with a 194.905mph two-lap average, nearly a full mile-per-hour faster than team-mate Will Power, who was P2.The pole is Castroneves' third at Phoenix, where he won back in 2002, and is Chevrolet's fourth straight to start the season. Phoenix also marks the first oval of the 2017 Verizon IndyCar season.Through a random draw, Castroneves went out midway through the order on a track that some suspected would get quicker as the night wore on.
