Barring unforeseen circumstances, Ed Carpenter Racing-Chevrolet #21 will be driven by Josef Newgarden in this weekend’s Kohler Grand Prix at Road America. The American, who broke his right clavicle and sustained a slight fracture to his right hand in a heavy crash at Texas Motor Speedway, was not certain for this weekend’s race. ECR’s occasional third driver, JR Hildebrand, drove the #21 at last week’s IndyCar test at Road America and was on standby for this weekend. Despite giving him clearance to run in today’s practice session, IndyCar Medical insisted on re-checking Newgarden after today’s two practice session.
